The Rhône Valley vineyards, covering more than 65,000 hectares, are the second largest in France, spanning six départements between Vienne and Avignon. The Hermitage AOC, located in the Drôme region, covers some 135 hectares in the communes of Tain-l'Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage and Larnage. Syrah, Marsanne and Roussanne vines thrive on soils of sand, pebbles and granitic rock, in a Mediterranean climate. The white wines, with their aromas of flowers, honey and toast, can be kept for 3 to 5 years. The red wines, powerful and fine, offer excellent ageing potential from 5 to 20 years, and even 30 years for certain vintages, with notes of red fruits, violets, spices and undergrowth.
