How to choose the right rosé?
Before presenting our selection, here are a few tips to help you choose the right rosé:
Color: Rosés can vary in hue, from pale to dark pink. Color is not necessarily an indicator of quality, but it can give an idea of the wine's style. Pale rosés are generally lighter and more delicate, while darker rosés are fruitier and fuller-bodied.
Region: Rosés come from different regions of France, each with its own characteristics. Rosés from Provence are renowned for their finesse and elegance, while those from Languedoc-Roussillon or the Rhône Valley are often fruitier and more generous.
Grape variety: The grape varieties used to make rosés also influence their aromatic profile. Grenache, Cinsault and Syrah are frequently used in rosés from the south of France, bringing notes of red fruit, flowers or spices, depending on their proportion in the blend.
How rosé wine is made
Rosé wine is made from red grapes, but unlike red wine, the contact or maceration time between the juice and the grape skins is shorter. There are two main methods for producing rosé:
Bleeding: After a short maceration, some of the juice is removed from the vats containing the fermenting red grapes. This rosé juice is then fermented separately.
Direct pressing: The red grapes are pressed immediately after harvesting, and the juice is fermented without prolonged maceration with the skins.
In both cases, the contact time between the juice and the skins determines the colour and aromas of the rosé wine. There are also sparkling rosé wines and natural rosé wines.
