Portraits of winemakers
MAISON ALBÉRIC DUVAT, A CHAMPAGNE AT THE CROSSROADS OF THE MARNE, AISNE AND AUBE REGIONS

Domaine Xavier Duvat: A Legacy of Champagne Excellence
It was on ten hectares of vines between Sézanne and Épernay that Xavier Duvat's grandfather, the current owner, established himself in 1870. Since then, the family has maintained this tradition from vintage to vintage. Recently, the sixth generation of winemakers has joined the estate with the arrival of Léonard and Augustin, Xavier's sons. Each cuvée represents a special memory, a unique moment in their lives.
The Estate: The King Varietals of Champagne
This estate, passed down from father to son, spans ten hectares. The Duvat family cultivates the three main grape varieties permitted in Champagne. Chardonnay (50% of the vineyard) is the only white grape grown, used in blending cuvées alongside the black-skinned varieties with white juice: Pinot Noir (20% of the vineyard) and Pinot Meunier (30% of the vineyard).
The estate is guided by values of friendliness and cheerfulness. Visitors can tour the vineyard and cellar year-round, with activities evolving with the seasons, such as participating in the harvest and tasting the grapes. The house's wines aim to be festive, traditional, and shared, crafted by passionate individuals. For the past two years, the estate has been working to achieve HVE certification by 2021.
The Winemaker: Xavier Duvat
Xavier Duvat's life, son of Albéric Duvat, has been marked by two significant moments. His baptism with Champagne at the age of six months, a precursor to his future vocation, and the 1991 harvest when his father announced, “These are my last harvests as the chief operator.” Now, Xavier carries on the family tradition and is already training his two sons to ensure the continuity of this heritage.
His goal? To continually improve in order to maintain exceptional Champagne quality for his clientele. Mission accomplished, as Xavier's wines are regularly recognized by the Hachette Guide.
