CHÂTEAU CHAMPION

Domaine Bourrigaud: A Legacy of Exceptional Winemaking Since the 18th Century
Preserving and Enhancing a Prestigious Heritage
Since the 18th century, the Bourrigaud family has successfully preserved and enriched an exceptional winemaking heritage. Located in the heart of the prestigious Saint-Émilion vineyard, Pascal Bourrigaud, the eighth of his name, along with his wife Véronique, continues the family tradition by managing the illustrious Château Champion, Château Vieux Grand Faurie, and Château Haute-Terrasse. This family transmission, deeply rooted in the Bourrigaud vineyards, aims to continue with the ninth generation, Guillaume and Auriane, the children of Pascal and Véronique.
These three estates, whose origins date back to the late 18th century, were already present on maps from that time, reflecting their rich history. Consequently, the wines produced are the result of centuries of expertise and an intimate connection between the Bourrigaud family and the land they cultivate with passion and dedication.
Unique Estates and Varied Wines
Each of the three estates has its own identity and reveals the secrets of its terroir through its wines.
Château Champion spans nearly 7 hectares within the highly reputed AOC Saint-Émilion Grand Cru. Its clay-limestone soils primarily support Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. The exceptional wines reveal complex aromas of black fruits and spices, supported by a fleshy and balanced palate.
Château Vieux Grand Faurie, also spanning 5 hectares and producing AOC Saint-Émilion Grand Cru, offers a unique terroir composed of ancient sands, gravel, and a touch of iron residue. The wines from this estate are marked by their softness and gourmandise.
Château Haute-Terrasse, located in the neighboring Castillon-Côtes de Bordeaux appellation, is known for its supple and fruity red wines. Grown on clay-limestone slopes, they evoke aromas of small red fruits wrapped in silky tannins, making them accessible in their youth.
Château Champion: A Commitment to Future Generations
Organic farming is at the heart of the Bourrigaud philosophy. Since 2018, the estate has adopted an environmentally friendly approach, avoiding synthetic products in favor of more traditional methods. This commitment was recognized with ECOCERT certification starting with the 2021 vintage. Beyond winemaking, what drives Pascal and Véronique Bourrigaud each day is transmission. The couple is dedicated to passing on their know-how, passion, and a flourishing estate to their descendants.
At Château Champion, every harvest and fermentation is a significant moment filled with emotions. For Pascal Bourrigaud, who oversees winemaking at the estates, the end of each alcoholic fermentation is compared to a birth, highlighting the magic of creating a wine. Château Champion, like the other family estates, is more than just a vineyard. It is a testament to a rich history, a reflection of a family's love for its terroir, and a promise for future generations.
