DOMAINE LA BERGERADE

Domaine La Bergerade: A Hidden Gem Between Languedoc and the Rhône Valley
Rediscovering a Historic Vineyard
Nestled between the Languedoc vineyards and the Rhône Valley, alongside the small Camargue lagoons, Domaine La Bergerade spans nearly 30 hectares of exceptional terroir. These vineyards, bathed in the gentle Mediterranean climate, echo the winemaking traditions of the southern Rhône Valley.
This magical place, perched on the heights of the Camargue, saw its foundations established as early as the 17th century. However, this dream-filled and splendid past has not always been peaceful…
The old Bergerie experienced years of neglect, leaving its mark over time. But in 2017, a revival began after four years of meticulous restoration, restoring the estate to the grandeur it deserves. In 2021, Jean-Pierre and Virginie, enchanted by the allure of the place, decided to write their own story here. Jean-Pierre, with deep family roots in viticulture, including winemaker parents and great-grandparents who were coopers, has committed himself wholeheartedly to honoring, preserving, and enriching this precious heritage.
Domaine La Bergerade: A Contemporary Vision of Wine
Jean-Pierre and Virginie, driven by a visceral love for the vine, have managed to blend modern touches with the richness of tradition. The acquisition of Domaine La Bergerade was marked by innovative transformations. Upon taking over the estate, Jean-Pierre and Virginie embarked on major changes, including the removal of certain vine plants and the replanting of promising parcels.
Their central wish: to craft quality wines at reasonable prices while staying true to the nature and identity of their terroir. To achieve this ambitious goal, they initiated a conversion to organic farming, aiming for BIO certification by 2024. But their vision doesn’t stop there. Eager to innovate, they have reimagined the vineyard, replanting plots with bold and lesser-known grape varieties in France, such as Sangiovese and Saperavi, revealing their desire to introduce new flavors.
A Unique Terroir Reflecting a Favorable Climate
The richness of Domaine La Bergerade’s wines originates from a unique soil composed of rolled pebbles on a clay bed. This soil, combined with the leniency of the Mediterranean climate, allows the wines to fully express their identity, situated between Languedoc and the southern Rhône Valley. The Mistral, dry and fierce, protects the health of the vines, while generous sunlight shapes wines with robust character.
The proximity of the Camargue lagoons, with their humidity, provides a unique microclimate, influencing the distinctiveness of the wines from Domaine La Bergerade. In summary, each bottle from Domaine La Bergerade is the result of a perfect alchemy between nature, climate, and human expertise. It is not merely a wine, but a story, a heritage, and a passion to savor!
