CHÂTEAU GRAND'GRANGE: A RICH HERITAGE AND ONGOING INNOVATION

Château Grand'Grange: A Rich Beaujolais Heritage with a Modern Twist
Embracing Tradition and Innovation in Beaujolais
At the heart of the Beaujolais region, Château Grand'Grange embodies a rich winemaking heritage that dates back to the early 19th century. Acquired by a close associate of Napoleon Bonaparte, this historic estate has seen its foundations rise with the local granite stones. It takes its name from a majestic 60-meter-long barn, which now houses the winery. In 2009, Per Hakon Schmidt and Marianne Philip, passionate about wine and French culture, took over the estate, with Andréa Pugliese, a young oenologist, as a cornerstone of their innovative vision. Their mission is to respect and enhance this heritage while introducing biodiversity-friendly viticulture, marking a renewal of Château Grand'Grange.
A Unique Terroir and Innovative Practices
The twelve hectares of vineyards at Château Grand'Grange, nestled near Mont Brouilly, benefit from ideal sunshine on granite and sandy soils, creating perfect conditions for Gamay and Chardonnay. These grape varieties are key to the region's red and white wines, bringing complexity to Château Grand'Grange's cuvées. As a proud representative of the A.O.P. Beaujolais Villages, the estate produces wines that are a pure reflection of this unique terroir. The new owners' vision of renewal and dynamism is evident in every bottle, redefining the traditional image of Beaujolais.
Evolving Heritage and New Projects
Château Grand'Grange is in constant evolution, with a series of projects aimed at continually improving the quality of its wines and sharing the charm of Beaujolais wines with a wider audience. The removal and replanting of old vines have been central to recent changes. The estate has made the bold choice to introduce grape varieties such as Sangiovese and Saperavi, adding a touch of originality to the winery's range of wines.
The anticipated 2024 organic certification highlights the estate's commitment to sustainable and environmentally friendly viticulture. Andréa Pugliese, the Château’s oenologist, is driven by a passion and desire to leave a lasting impact. He aims to produce wines that embody the perfect balance, accessible to all while revealing beautiful complexity with careful tasting.
Château Grand'Grange: Exceptional Wines with a Personal Touch
Among Château Grand'Grange’s cuvées, "La Cascade" stands out as Andréa Pugliese’s most personal expression. It is a wine that combines accessibility with depth, symbolizing the balance and finesse the winemaker strives to achieve. This cuvée, crafted from various parcels around the château, serves as a playground for the winemaker, allowing him to explore the multiple facets of his terroir.
The estate offers a variety of cuvées that will complement all your social moments. Red wine, rosé, white wine, and Crémant de Bourgogne will enhance any meal with friends. With its rich heritage and innovative approach, Château Grand'Grange is captivating an increasing number of consumers eager to discover wines that reflect the unique terroir of Beaujolais. Under the enlightened direction of Andréa Pugliese, the estate continues to honor a centuries-old tradition while writing a new chapter in Beaujolais' history.
