Les Cassagnes Estate: A Family Legacy in the Heart of Winemaking Tradition

For generations, the Les Cassagnes estate has been cultivated by the ROGER family, passing the craft from father to son. Over the past 40 years, Jean restructured the entire vineyard, and now Thomas has taken the reins, transitioning the vineyard to Organic Agriculture and High Environmental Value (HVE) standards. Today, the estate includes 50 hectares of vineyards and 8 hectares of farmland. Spanning the Limoux appellation across the communes of Gardie, Villebazy, and Saint-Hilaire—where Benedictine monks discovered the world’s first sparkling wine in 1531—the estate lies at the heart of the Mediterranean terroir.

A Mediterranean Terroir Ideal for Organic Viticulture

Located between Carcassonne and the Pyrenees, our terroir is enriched by both Mediterranean and oceanic influences. With dry, warm, and wind-swept summers, the grapes ripen with ease, while cool nights provide ideal temperature variations, particularly benefiting Chardonnay and Pinot Noir varieties. Practicing sustainable agriculture for many years, in 2017 we joined an Economic and Ecological Interest Group (GIEE), emphasizing local organic fertilizers, bee protection, and environmental stewardship.Our approach aims to balance environmental protection, landscape preservation, economic sustainability, and public accessibility. In January 2018, we took a significant step forward, converting our entire estate to organic farming, with a three-year transition period before our first certified organic wines become available.
