DOMAINE JOSEPH MELLOT, AMBASSADOR FOR THE GREAT WINES OF CENTRE-LOIRE

Domaine Joseph Mellot: Ambassador of the Great Wines of the Centre-Loire
Domaine Joseph Mellot is one of those names that needs no introduction. A prominent reference established at the foot of the beautiful Saint-Andelain hill, the Mellot name has been rooted in the Burgundy region of the Loire for 500 years.
It was in 1513, with Pierre-Etienne Mellot, that the Mellot name began to rise in the world of viticulture, and in 1698, when César Mellot became a wine purchasing advisor for the King.
From generation to generation, the Mellot name has made a significant impact in the wine world, with the estate now covering the most prestigious appellations of the Loire: Sancerre, Pouilly-Fumé, Menetou-Salon, Reuilly, Quincy, Châteaumeillant, Coteaux du Giennois, and Pouilly-sur-Loire. The Mellot family was among the first to export the region's wines to Denmark, the Netherlands, and Great Britain as early as the 1960s, as well as selling their wines at the Bercy market in Paris.
An Exceptional Terroir and Unique Grape Varieties
The Mellot family is both an ambassador and creator of the region's reputation and its appellations. Catherine Corbeau-Mellot and her two sons, Armand and Adrien Mellot, work with the iconic grape varieties that have brought success to the wines of the Centre-Val de Loire on their 100 hectares of vineyards. This is the only estate in the Loire to vinify wines from all the appellations in the region.
The estate's wines allow you to discover the sublime Sauvignon Blancs of the region, particularly through the renowned appellations of Sancerre, Pouilly-Fumé, and Menetou-Salon. For red wines, it’s Pinot Noir that shines, offering subtle and elegant wines, much like their Burgundy neighbors. Some terroirs are also characterized by the presence of lesser-known grape varieties, such as Chasselas in the Pouilly-sur-Loire appellation, Gamay in Coteaux du Giennois and Châteaumeillant, and Pinot Gris for the rosé wines of the Reuilly appellation.
A Recognized Expertise
The estate has recently been in the spotlight for the awards won by its wines. Domaine Joseph Mellot is regularly cited and praised in major wine guides and recognized in the most prestigious competitions. The most recent? The Ligers competition, where many of their wines received Gold and Silver medals.
These awards highlight the strong heritage of unique expertise, as well as a continuous effort to innovate, marked by a deep respect and passion for this legacy. The estate is also committed to eco-responsible practices, respecting the land and vineyards that produce these elegant wines.
A reliable choice and exceptional wines that we invite you to taste by purchasing directly from the producer through Avenuedesvins.
