The History of Château Grand'Grange
The soul of a place is deeply rooted in its history, and Château Grand'Grange is no exception. The estate's journey began in 1810 when land was purchased by a relative of Napoleon Bonaparte. By 1842, the château and its outbuildings, constructed from local granite stone, were completed. The estate is named after a grand 60-meter-long barn, which now houses the winery. In 2009, Per Hakon Schmidt and Marianne Philip decided to become part of this rich history. Enthusiastic about wine and French culture, they set about restoring this unique property and enhancing the vineyard. Since 2019, Andréa Pugliese, a young oenologist, has taken the helm, guiding the estate's viticulture practices with a focus on sustainability and biodiversity.
An Exceptional Terroir in the Heart of Beaujolais
Located in the commune of Le Perréon, at the foot of Mont Brouilly, the twelve-hectare vineyard enjoys perfect sun exposure. The moderate slopes and predominantly sandy granite soils contribute to the exceptional quality of the grapes. This unique terroir is part of the Beaujolais Villages Protected Designation of Origin (A.O.P.). The estate is home to two grape varieties cultivated with passion: Gamay, which produces the characteristic red wines of the region, and Chardonnay, which is used to craft Beaujolais Villages wines.
