The Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) Landes is an appellation that embodies the winemaking essence of this region in the southwest of France. Situated between the Atlantic Ocean and the Pyrenees, this region is traditionally known for its vast pine forests and varied landscapes. The winemaking history of the Landes goes back several centuries, although wine production has never achieved the same fame as in neighboring wine regions such as Bordeaux. However, in recent years, interest in Landes wines has continued to grow. Indeed, the IGP Landes, with its diversity of grape varieties and styles, offers a beautiful range of wines capable of pleasing a wide range of wine lovers, while reflecting the unique character of this region in the southwest of France.
The IGP Landes authorizes a wide variety of grape varieties, allowing winemakers to explore different expressions of their terroir. For red and rosé wines, grape varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Tannat are commonly used, each bringing its own characteristics of flavor and structure. For white wines, Colombard, Ugni Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, and Gros Manseng are the dominant grape varieties, producing fresh and aromatic wines.
