Refinement and Aromatic Expression at Domaine Cauhapé – A Leading Reference of Jurançon

Domaine Cauhapé, founded by Henri Ramonteu in 1980, is now recognized as one of the main references of the Jurançon appellation. Located in Monein, near Pau, this estate produces both dry and sweet wines from the rare, indigenous grape varieties of the South-West, including Petit Manseng, Gros Manseng, Camaralet, Courbu, and Lauzet.

Distinctive and Ancient Grape Varieties of Jurançon

The estate stands out for its use of rare grape varieties, true treasures of the region. Petit Manseng, with its delicate clusters and thick skin, is harvested late to achieve perfect ripeness. Gros Manseng and Courbu bring fruity and subtle aromas, while Camaralet and Lauzet, ancient grape varieties, enrich the dry Jurançon wines with an unprecedented array of flavors.

Wines Guided by Terroir and Passion

Henri Ramonteu firmly believes that every great wine results from the perfect alchemy between terroir, climate, and human expertise. This is how the terroir wines of Domaine Cauhapé are born, reflecting the culture and typicity of the grape varieties. The vines, planted on clay-silt slopes, are managed according to the principles of sustainable agriculture, respectful of the environment.

Late Harvest: Grapes at Full Maturity

The late harvest in December at Domaine Cauhapé allows the grapes to benefit from autumn sunshine and frost, creating grapes exceptionally concentrated in aromas, which leads to unique cuvées with rich and complex sensory profiles.

Jurançon in Transition: From Sweet to Dry

Although Jurançon has traditionally been known for its sweet wines, it has undergone a real evolution with the production of dry wines for over 15 years. These fresh and elegant wines, made from rare grape varieties like Petit Manseng, Gros Manseng, Camaralet, Courbu, and Lauzet, have become very successful. Dry Jurançon now represents the future of this evolving wine region.
