LE DOMAINE LA MARSEILLAISE

Domaine La Marseillaise: A Legacy of Provence
The Origins of Domaine La Marseillaise
The story of Domaine La Marseillaise begins in the 19th century when Joseph Moutte, an agricultural worker, invested all his savings into acquiring the estate. At that time, the estate was dedicated to mixed farming, including olive trees, vineyards, and fig trees. The name of the estate originates from a variety of figs grown on the land, known as "La Marseillaise."
In 1997, Pierre and Fabienne Sautou, representing the fifth generation of the family estate, revived this name, reflecting their heritage. Located in the heart of the Vallée de Sauvebonne in the Var region, and extending over nearly 6 hectares, Domaine La Marseillaise fully embodies the soul and character of Provence.
Domaine La Marseillaise: A Story of Revival
Domaine La Marseillaise enjoyed great prosperity at the beginning of the 20th century, thanks to the ingenuity of Justinien Moutte, Joseph’s son, who had the idea of harvesting table grapes in October, then preserving them in bottles until Christmas before selling them in Paris!
However, despite this success, the estate also experienced difficult periods due to the sale of some land and a period of inactivity lasting about ten years. After taking over the family estate in 1995, Fabienne and Pierre Sautou undertook a massive renovation, clearing, and replanting of the vineyards, with a philosophy of respecting life and the environment. After producing grapes for the cooperative cellar for a few years, a long-held dream was realized in 2016 with the creation of their own cellar on the estate. This was one of the most significant events in the lives of the two winemakers.
A Vineyard Committed to Organic and Biodynamic Viticulture
The first vintage emerged in 2017, featuring a red cuvée Pays du Var in honor of Justinien, Fabienne’s ingenious great-grandfather. Today, Domaine La Marseillaise operates under principles of organic and biodynamic viticulture, producing environmentally respectful wines without the use of chemical products or enological additives. Certified Demeter, the estate embodies an eco-responsible approach to viticulture, where all actions are aimed at preserving biodiversity and minimizing environmental impact. This commitment includes bottle reuse for the local market to reduce waste and conserve energy.
Embracing a Rich Heritage with Sustainable Practices
In conclusion, Domaine La Marseillaise is a testament to the rich history and hard work of five generations. Guided by their passion for nature, vines, and wine, Fabienne and Pierre have revitalized the estate, highlighting sustainable and environmentally respectful viticulture practices. Their ecological commitment is reflected in the exceptional quality of their wines, which harmoniously blend flavor, balance, and finesse. Domaine La Marseillaise represents a true love for life in all its forms while showcasing a strong family heritage.
