Domaine Gueth: On the Path of Wine

“Geth,” in Alsatian, like “gut” in German or “good” in English, means “good.” And goodness is truly the word that characterizes the wines of this estate. It reflects the goodness of the terroir, the climate, and above all, Muriel and the feminine touch she brings after seven generations of winemakers. Muriel embodies a kindness towards life, others, and her wines. For her, the wines come not from her but through her, and she is dedicated to helping her vines realize their potential. Thanks to her attention to each plot, each vine, and all their specifics, she allows them to express their character. And the possibilities are abundant with the seven grape varieties of the vineyard: Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Auxerrois, Sylvaner, Pinot Noir, Riesling, and Pinot Blanc. Domaine Gueth: Between Tradition and Modernity

The village of Guebwiller is part of the historic and cultural region of Alsace, carved from the pink sandstone of the Vosges. Its cobblestone streets and half-timbered houses offer views that are a typical reflection of Alsatian villages. Its vineyard is also a proud representative of Alsatian tradition, located within the AOC Alsace and Crémant d’Alsace appellations while allowing for the production of four Alsace Grand Cru AOCs (Kessler, Kitterlé, Saering, and Spiegel). It is in the heart of this traditional setting and exceptional terroir that Muriel caught the wine bug, surprising her family, who were unaccustomed to seeing women interested in viticulture. The Domaine Gueth has been in the family for seven generations, and Muriel still remembers planting some of the current vines with her grandfather. Admiring the power of life and the beauty of her region, she decided in 2007 to modernize and move her cellar to the heart of her vineyards, which she has always cultivated “in the green.”

Wines with Multiple Personalities

The estate’s philosophy is reflected in its wines. For our winemaker, collaborating with nature means first accepting that it offers surprises, which allow for exploring new flavors and better expressing this beautiful terroir. This central principle drives the team daily: respecting the path of wine. It is about supporting and guiding the vine, with minimal intervention, from the vineyard to the cellar, to avoid imposing a style. The vine itself should express its personality and character in the wine. One of the estate's flagship projects is to discover and enhance the complex personalities of Pinot Noir planted at high altitude on the limestone slopes. Another project is to develop the art of blending, still rare in Alsace, to find a way to express each plot of the vineyard. The wines of Domaine Gueth are sincere and digestible, in harmony with themselves, without artifice or embellishment.
