HOW DO YOU REMOVE A RED WINE STAIN?

At a home gathering or family meal, it's not uncommon for a glass of red wine to spill and stain your tablecloth, dress, or shirt.
By reacting immediately, you can often remove a red wine stain quite easily. Discover what mistakes to avoid, the best grandmother’s tricks, and all our tips for removing a red wine stain from white fabrics.
Mistakes to Avoid
One of the most well-known tricks that is actually ineffective is using coarse salt on a wine stain. Coarse salt does not absorb liquid and can damage your fabric.
Additionally, do not put your garment or tablecloth directly into the washing machine, as this might set the stain. Red wine stains are difficult to remove from fabrics. To make it easier to treat your tablecloth or garment, consider pre-washing it.
Grandmother’s Tricks for Removing a Red Wine Stain
When red wine is freshly spilled, here are some home remedies to apply for removing the stain. You can immerse the stained garment in cold water to prevent the stain from setting into the cotton fibers.
It is also effective to rub the stain dry with Marseille soap, then wash the garment or tablecloth in a 40°C cycle. This home remedy is quite effective. You can also use flour or talcum powder to absorb the liquid. Simply sprinkle the stain, let it dry, and then gently brush the fabric. After rinsing, if any red wine remains, you can blot the fabric with a cloth soaked in 70% alcohol, ammonia, or milk.
If the wine stain is old, it will be very difficult to remove. However, you can try to treat it with white vinegar. Soak the stain in warm water, then blot with a cloth soaked in white vinegar. You can also use a mixture of water, white vinegar, and household alcohol. Finally, if the stain persists, you can try applying a paste made of baking soda and lemon, which can help whiten stains. Apply it, let it sit for a few hours, scrub, and rinse. This method can be used to remove stains from cotton fabrics, sofas, tablecloths, clothes, and household linens.
