In the departments of Savoie and Jura, on the border with Switzerland, there is a small, little-known vineyard, that of Savoie-Bugey. It is home to the AOC Vin de Savoie Ayze pétillant.

The appellation area of this AOC extends in Haute-Savoie over some 22 hectares of soils mainly composed of clay, pebbles and scree. Gringet, Altesse and Roussette vines, subject to the continental climate and mountain influences of this geographical area, are planted in this appellation and produce sparkling white wines (whose bottle pressure is less than 2.5 bars). These wines are known for their aromatic character marked by fresh and dried fruits (Mirabelle plum, almond) and flowers.
