In the northwest of France, the Loire vineyard extends from the Massif Central to Nantes over some 70,000 hectares of vines. It is known for the Chinon, Bourgueil and Pouilly-Fumé appellations among others. The Valençay AOC is also found there.

The appellation area of this AOC extends over the territory of 15 communes of Indre and Loir-et-Cher over some 140 hectares of limestone soils mainly composed of pebbles, clay, silt and flint. Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Gamay, Carbet-Franc and Cabernet-Sauvignon vines among others, subject to the temperate climate and continental influences of this geographical area, are planted in this appellation and produce white, rosé and red wines. The latter are structured, tannic, with notes of red fruits and spices, the rosés are fresh and delicate with fruit aromas, and the whites are lively and silky and express blackcurrant and broom.
