AOC Saint-Véran: Everything you need to know about the wines of this appellation

History of the AOC Saint-Véran appellation

Established in 1971, the AOC Saint-Véran is relatively young in the Burgundy wine landscape. Located in the Mâconnais vineyard, it is surrounded by the famous neighboring appellation Pouilly-Fuissé, sharing with it a rich viticultural heritage celebrated for its exceptional white wines.

Climate and terroir of the AOC Saint-Véran appellation

Climate: Benefiting from a continental climate with Mediterranean influences, Saint-Véran enjoys hot and dry summers, favorable to the optimal ripening of its flagship grape variety: Chardonnay.

Soils: The vineyards rest on a mixture of limestone and clay soils, interspersed with limestone rocks, which impart to the wines their characteristic minerality.

Chardonnay: the emblematic grape variety of the AOC Saint-Véran

The only authorized grape variety within the AOC Saint-Véran is Chardonnay. This grape, inseparable from Burgundy and the Mâconnais, fully expresses itself in this specific terroir, giving wines with multiple nuances.

Style of AOC Saint-Véran wines

Appearance: Bright straw yellow color, which may present green or golden reflections depending on the age.

Nose: On the nose, the AOC Saint-Véran white wine reveals aromas of white flowers, stone fruits (peach, pear), citrus (orange zest), enhanced by hints of hazelnut, almond, and honey with oak aging.

Palate: The attack on the palate is fresh and lively, evolving towards a beautiful roundness. Minerality and finesse are the guiding threads of this wine, which often presents a good length on the finish.
