Burgundy, in central-eastern France, is one of France's oldest wine-growing regions, renowned for its great vintages. One of these is the AOC Pernand Vergelesses 1er Cru. The appellation area of this AOC extends over the Montagne de Corton, covering around 145 hectares of limestone, marl and clay soils. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vines, which are subject to a number of distinct climates, are planted in this appellation, which produces red and white wines (including 8 Premiers Crus). The red wines are velvety, full-bodied and tannic, with aromas of red and black fruits and violets, and can be kept for 5 to 10 years. The white wines are dry, lively and light, with notes of white flowers, typical of the Chardonnay grape variety, and can be kept for 3 to 8 years.
