In the center-east of France, Burgundy is one of the oldest French wine regions, known for its very great vintages. It includes in particular the AOC Mâcon Supérieur.

The appellation area of this AOC extends over 3750 hectares of limestone, marl, clay, siliceous or granitic soils. Pinot noir, gamay and chardonnay vines are planted in this appellation, which produces red wine and white wine with a higher alcohol content than for AOC Mâcon wines (11%). The red wines are light, with aromas of red and black fruits; the whites are dry and light, with notes of flowers and citrus fruits. They can be kept for a few years before being tasted (up to 3 years for the whites and up to 5 years for the reds).
