In the northwest of France, the Loire vineyard extends from the Massif Central to Nantes over some 70,000 hectares of vines. It is known for the Chinon, Bourgueil and Pouilly-Fumé appellations among others. The AOC Coteaux de Saumur is also found there.

The appellation area of this AOC extends in the Saumurois over some 10 hectares of mainly limestone, clay and schist soils. Chenin vines, subject to the temperate climate and oceanic influences of this geographical area, are planted in this appellation and produce sweet and liqueur white wines that can be kept well (between 10 and 15 years and more for certain vintages). These wines are lively and fresh, the palate is creamy, rich and aromatic (candied fruits, quince, honey, pineapple, mango).
