AOC Bouzeron: Everything You Need to Know About Wines from this Appellation
History of the AOC Bouzeron
Located in Burgundy, at the heart of the Côte Chalonnaise, the AOC Bouzeron is unique because it is the only communal appellation in Burgundy dedicated to the Aligoté grape variety. The vineyard of Bouzeron was recognized as a village appellation in 1997, thanks to the efforts of the renowned winemaker Aubert de Villaine, co-owner of the famous and highly prestigious Domaine de la Romanée-Conti.
Climate and Terroir of the Appellation AOC Bouzeron
Climate: The climate of the AOC Bouzeron is semi-continental, with hot summers and cold winters. The vineyard is protected from northern winds by the surrounding hills, which helps in ripening the grapes.
Soils: The soils of Bouzeron are mainly composed of limestone and marl, which provide good acidity to the wines, as well as a characteristic minerality.
Aligoté: the Essential Grape Variety of the AOC Bouzeron
Aligoté is the emblematic white grape variety of the Bouzeron appellation. Known for its refreshing acidity and aromas of apples and lemons, Bouzeron Aligoté is generally more complex and structured than those produced in other Burgundian terroirs.
