Located in the south-west quarter of France, the Bordeaux wine region is renowned for its great wines. One of its many appellations is AOC Barsac, located between the Ciron and Garonne rivers and benefiting from a very special microclimate. It is particularly favourable to the development of the Botrytis cinerea fungus (noble rot), which enables the production of sweet wines. These wines, made from Sémillon, Sauvignon and Muscadelle grapes, have an ageing potential of 20 years to almost a century for the racy, powerful Grand Crus.

History of the AOC Barsac

Nestled on the banks of the Garonne near the Ciron River in the Bordeaux region, the Barsac vineyard is ideally located for the production of exceptionally fine sweet wines. Renowned for its ability to produce wines with remarkable aromatic richness, the Barsac appellation also benefits from the Sauternes appellation, granting it a dual appellation status.

Climate and Terroir of the AOC Barsac

  • Climate: The Barsac region enjoys an oceanic climate characterized by hot summers and mild, humid autumns with morning mists, ideal conditions for the development of "noble rot" (Botrytis cinerea).
  • Soils: The Barsac vineyard is distinguished by its unique terroir consisting of limestone and clay-limestone soils, covered with a thin layer of gravelly sand, which promotes the optimal development of the vines.

Key Grape Varieties of the AOC Barsac
