AOC Anjou-Gamay: Everything You Need to Know About the Wines of This Appellation

History of the AOC Anjou-Gamay

Nestled in the heart of the Loire Valley, AOC Anjou Gamay has carved out a special place within the Anjou vineyards. Originally from Beaujolais, the Gamay grape found a second home in the Anjou terroirs, allowing this appellation to produce a fruity and light red wine, marked by elegance and authenticity.

Climate and Terroir of the AOC Anjou-Gamay

  • Climate: The region benefits from a temperate oceanic climate, providing balanced ripening for the grapes through a combination of sunny days and moderate rainfall.
  • Soils: The Anjou vineyard stretches over predominantly schist and limestone soils, imparting a remarkable minerality and freshness to the wines.

Gamay: The Signature Grape of AOC Anjou-Gamay

Gamay is an ancient red grape variety originating from Burgundy, found in many French regions. While Gamay is often associated with the Beaujolais vineyard, it reveals another facet in the AOC Anjou Gamay. In this Loire Valley region, Gamay often displays a tangy freshness, a light structure, and vibrant red fruit aromas.
