Family History and Winemaking Tradition: The Old Château Labatut
The journey of Vieux Château Labatut began in 1964 and has now spanned three generations. Frédéric Danflous took over the family estate in 2018, carrying forward the legacy with a commitment to crafting wines with exceptional character. The harvest is done by hand to carefully select the finest bunches, preserving the grapes' quality. To ensure environmental sustainability, all treatments are reasoned, and the estate's viticultural practices are certified HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale). The wine is a blend of Merlot (80%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (20%).
Terroir of Excellence in Montagne-Saint-Émilion
The Vieux Château Labatut vineyard is situated in the commune of Montagne in the Gironde, on the right bank of the Barbanne, a tributary of the Isle, extending the renowned Saint-Emilion vineyard. The Montagne-Saint-Émilion vineyard benefits from exceptional terroir, with clay-limestone soils on an asteriated limestone plateau, as well as sandy-clay soils composed of gravel and sand alluvium, well-drained by the Barbanne river. The estate spans approximately 4 hectares, and the wines are crafted under the AOC Montagne-Saint-Émilion designation, a satellite of the prestigious Saint-Emilion appellation.
