A Unique Terroir Bearing 1000 Years of History: The Wines of Fontfroide

In the heart of a stunning landscape sheltered by the Corbières hills, the wines of Fontfroide carry a legacy of 1000 years of history. This vineyard grew around the ancient Cistercian abbey in Cathar land, a treasure of Romanesque architecture. Originally, the wines of Fontfroide were produced to supply the daily wine ration prescribed by the Rule of Saint Benedict to the monks. Over time, the values of those who cultivated these vines shaped the wines—honoring traditional vine care, warm hospitality, and spirituality. The sandy-clay soils, formed from pink sandstone bedrock, enhance the refined expression of the grapes, resulting in wines with intensely fruity and rare aromas.

Now led by Laure de Chevron Villette, the Fontfroide estate offers an impressive range of wines from the abbey, with signature cuvées such as Ocellus, Deo Gratias, and Spiritualis. Laure's vision is to establish Fontfroide Wines as an oenological gem of the Languedoc region.
