Cave de Maury: A Century of Passion for an Exceptional Terroir
Founded in 1910, our cooperative is rooted in a rich blend of Occitan, Cathar, and Catalan traditions. Dominated by the Château de Quéribus, a former Cathar fortress, the Maury vineyard is nestled between the Corbières to the north and the first foothills of the Pyrénées to the south. The combination of poor schist noir soil and a warm, windy climate creates a unique terroir that naturally limits yields to just three glasses per vine (or 25 hl/ha), where the Grenache grape reigns supreme.
Grenache thrives here, perfectly expressing the essence of the land. We take great care in preserving the heritage of our old Grenache vines, which produce three varieties: black (the soul of our cellar), white, and gris. Maury Vins Doux Naturel was officially recognized with an appellation decree in 1936, one of the first in France. In 2000, our winemakers pioneered the idea of converting part of our harvest into red wines, and since 2011, we have been proud to extend the Maury appellation to include still wine: Maury Sec.
For over 100 years, the Cave de Maury has remained a testament to the determination of the men and women who have nurtured this cooperative, driven by a belief in the future of an exceptional terroir that continues to offer new surprises.
