The family adventure began in 1999 with the purchase of 10 hectares of old vines and a rental property on Rue de l’Amour in Autignac. For over 20 years, we have been restructuring our vineyard year after year to meet our goals, and today, it covers more than 30 hectares. In 2006, our son Boris Feigel joined us and began the organic conversion process in 2008. He takes special care of the soils with appropriate cover crops and produces wine without sulfites in our new winery, which was inaugurated in 2010. Eric de Turckheim also joined us in this journey, bringing us closer to the Château in our village. Since 2016, Château Autignac has also offered exceptional accommodations with gîtes and guest rooms.
Today, the estate spans more than 30 hectares, with 26 hectares in production, many of which feature old vines, including 7 hectares of Carignan, the oldest of which were planted in 1910! The Faugères AOC is a small appellation located on a schist terroir. The soils are highly draining and poor in nutrients, encouraging the vines to dig their roots deep to access the elements needed to produce great wines.
Organic farming, combined with soil conservation techniques, allows carbon to be stored in the soil, in contrast to the results of agrochemistry. Moreover, plants that are not protected by pesticides defend themselves by producing antioxidants. Ultimately, this approach benefits the planet, the consumer, and the farmer alike.
