Family Tradition and Organic Viticulture at the Heart of Minervois
Located in the commune of Roquecourbe-Minervois, Domaine Montaude embodies the perfect union between winemaking heritage, respect for the terroir, and openness to the future. On the gently sloping hillsides and terraces of the Aude balconies, this family-owned vineyard now extends over more than 50 hectares of vines, passionately cultivated by Patricia and Philippe Escoï, heirs to six generations of winemakers.
Since the first plots were acquired in 1860, the Escoï family has continuously enriched its vineyard, gradually restoring a large part of the former estate of the Château de Roquecourbe. Today, Domaine Montaude, a true historic estate, represents this commitment to passing on authentic know-how while integrating new sustainable viticulture practices.
Domaine Montaude: A Vineyard Rich in Diversity
The vineyard of Domaine Montaude consists of traditional old vines such as Carignan, Grenache, Syrah, and Cinsault, as well as more recent grape varieties like Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc. This diversity produces AOP Minervois wines and Pays d’Oc wines with varied profiles, faithfully reflecting their terroir. The main plots are ideally located: south-facing slopes with gentle inclines overlooking the Aude, providing perfect conditions for growing grapes to optimal maturity and thus revealing the full aromatic richness of the grape varieties. The IGP white wines, particularly Sauvignon Blanc, feature exotic fruit notes, while the red wines from Carignan or Grenache express a typical Languedoc style, combining roundness, structure, and freshness.
Organic Farming and Environmental Commitment
Committed to preserving biodiversity and natural balances, the Escoï family opted for organic conversion in 2019. The organic farming label was obtained with the 2022 vintage, validating work carried out with respect for the soil, climate, and vine cycles. The estate is also engaged in an HVE (High Environmental Value) approach, further reinforcing its sustainable cultivation and respectful approach. Every vineyard intervention is designed to minimize the impact on the ecosystem. Soil work is done mechanically, without chemical herbicides, and phytosanitary treatments are kept to a minimum. This approach ensures healthy wines with pure expression and sustainable vineyard plots for future generations.
