Domaine de Lauzières in the Baux-de-Provence Appellation
Located in the Baux-de-Provence valley in the commune of Mouriès, Domaine de Lauzières spans 71 hectares, including 31 hectares of vines and 25 hectares of olive groves. Christophe Pillon, the current owner and operator, practices biodynamic viticulture and olive cultivation, using methods such as amphora vinification and nighttime manual harvests. Domaine de Lauzières was likely founded in the 16th century, during the time when Huguenots sought refuge in the Alpilles. However, it was in 1992 that Gérard Pillon and his business partner, passionate about wine, discovered the estate near Via Aurelia, nestled in this sun-drenched terroir. Upon taking over, significant improvements were made to revitalize the estate. In 2011, Gérard passed the reins to his son Christophe, who continues to lead Domaine de Lauzières.
Terroir and Commitments of Domaine de Lauzières
In 2011, Christophe modernized the estate while honoring its traditions. By 2015, the estate had earned Demeter certification for both its wines and olive oil, solidifying its commitment to organic and biodynamic farming. The vineyard grows a variety of grape varieties, with its cuvées standing out for their purity and distinctiveness. For example, the Apogée rosé is made entirely from the Petit Verdot grape. The estate's dedication to nature is reflected in every wine, celebrated for its freshness and complexity.
