Domaine de Figueirasse: A Legacy in the Petite Camargue
Nestled in the Petite Camargue, between a former branch of the Rhône (now known as the Rhône Mort de Saint Roman) and the sea, the Domaine de Figueirasse derives its name from the fig trees that were cultivated there in the 19th century.
In the late 19th century, the vineyards were devastated by phylloxera, but the sandy soil of the region proved resistant to the disease. The Domaine de Figueirasse began to flourish thanks to the resilience of its vines, marking the start of a new chapter in viticulture for the estate. Originally a 20-hectare property, it was acquired by the Saumade family in 1905. The family expanded the vineyard by levelling an additional 30 hectares, doubling the capacity of the winery.
Over the years, Domaine de Figueirasse has embraced modern winemaking techniques, becoming renowned for producing high-quality Vins des Sables, reflecting the unique terroir of the area.
