Respect for Nature: HVE Certification at Château Gauthier
Founded in 1919, Château Gauthier is a historic vineyard located at the junction of Blayais and Bourgeais, on the right bank of the Dordogne River and the Gironde Estuary. Classified as a 1er Cru of Bordeaux since 1946 by the Féret Guide of Great Wines of Bordeaux, the estate was taken over in 2017 by Fabien Bonabaud, a passionate winemaker dedicated to showcasing this unique terroir of sands and small tertiary gravel, particularly suited for producing wines of great finesse.
Since 2019, Domaine Bonabaud, which includes both Châteaux Gauthier and Nézereau, has been awarded the High Environmental Value (HVE) certification, attesting to its commitment to biodiversity and environmental preservation. The estate is also a signatory of the Natura 2000 Charter, a commitment to the protection of rivers and natural ecosystems.
True to their principles as winemaker-farmers, the estate ensures that no chemical inputs are used in the vineyards and minimizes the environmental impact of its production process. In 2021, the estate took another significant step by transitioning to organic farming, further strengthening its commitment to sustainable viticulture.
