The Beginning of the Médoc AOC Journey
It all began in 1999, when Grégory GOIRAND, the fourth generation of winemakers, and I, Ingrid GANCEL, his partner, created SCEA HONTANE to cultivate 1.80 hectares of vines in the Médoc AOC. At that time, we were members of the nearby cooperative cellar. Our wine was vinified in separate tanks and sold under the brand Château Les Coteaux de Voluzan. Over the years, we gradually expanded the size of our vineyard.
Expansion and Independence
In 2015, after disagreements with the cooperative, we decided to build our own winery. With the help of a passionate young oenologist, Julien Maillet, who fully dedicated himself to our project, we vinified our first vintage. Almost all of our harvest was sold to the trade, but we made it a point to keep 25 hectolitres from our best terroirs to sell ourselves in bottles—this became the Ivar-Aiden cuvée. For labor, it’s all in the family: my brother and brother-in-law, either as employees or helping each other on the vineyard. In 2016, our daughter Eva joined us on the estate. Today, we manage 22 hectares, mostly made up of clay-limestone soils. A clear dominance of Merlot (70%), 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Petit Verdot allows us to craft a wine that stands out within the Médoc AOC.
