Organic farming and tradition at Château Montana
Château Montana was founded at the end of the 19th century. Jean Jonquères d'Oriola comes from a farming family that has been established in the Eastern Pyrenees for more than 5 centuries. His passion is to work alongside his family to develop the finesse and power of this terroir and the potential of these sites. The vineyard covers sixty hectares on two terroirs in the Aspres on the foothills of the Pic du Canigou, between sea and mountains, south of Perpignan. On clay-limestone soils, we grow traditional grape varieties such as Syrah, Grenache, Carignan and Mourvèdre, as well as other varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Marselan and Muscat.
Today, we are certified “Haute Valeur Environnementale”, leaving room for traditional methods such as mechanical tillage and respect for the environment, which promote biodiversity and keep yields low. Now in its second year of organic conversion, our production will be certified for the 2023 vintage.
Our wines are vinified, matured and bottled on the estate, in our cellar equipped with thermo-regulated stainless steel vats and a barrel cellar. Château Montana, in addition to its winemaking activities, which can be explored through visits and tastings, also offers the possibility of renting out its hall and gîtes, which can accommodate all types of events.
