An Exceptional Terroir in AOC Cahors

Located in Duravel, within the AOC Cahors, Château Cantelauze benefits from an exceptional terroir influenced by both Atlantic and Mediterranean climates. Its 12 hectares of vineyards, including 10 hectares of Malbec and 1.6 hectares of Merlot, are spread across two distinct soil types:

- Clay-limestone with gravel and limestone scree, producing powerful and structured wines.

- Clay-loam with pebble deposits, resulting in fruitier wines with supple tannins.

Recently, a 0.4-hectare plot has been grafted with white grape varieties (Sauvignon Gris and Gros Manseng), marking a new chapter in the estate’s diversity.

A Commitment to Organic Farming

Since its acquisition in 2011 by Marcel Mezy, Château Cantelauze has embraced an ecological and sustainable approach. Thanks to Marcel Mezy Technologies (TMM), recognized for their positive environmental impact, the estate achieved Organic Agriculture certification in 2015. Even before that, in 2014, analyses had already confirmed the total absence of pesticides in its wines. Considered the "third agricultural revolution" by experts, TMM enables natural soil fertilization, reducing water and chemical input consumption while promoting balanced yields and optimal fruit concentration.

The estate employs a rigorous parcel-based approach, particularly for its signature cuvée, Le Tréjet. Sourced from an 80-are vineyard, this pure Malbec cuvée represents the pinnacle of Cahors wine, with controlled aging and remarkable aging potential. The climate-controlled cellar at Château Cantelauze houses 16 stainless steel vats, allowing for separate vinification of grape varieties before blending and bottling. Oak barrel aging enhances the wines with complex aromas of black fruits, spices, and delicate woody notes.

Elegant and Flavorful Wines

Château Cantelauze wines captivate with their balance and controlled power. Malbec, the emblematic grape of Cahors, provides structure and depth, while the smaller proportion of Merlot softens the blend with its round and silky aromas. These wines pair perfectly with red meats, bold dishes, and cheese platters. Each bottle embodies the estate’s commitment to respecting the vineyard and its terroir, offering an authentic tasting experience.

Beyond wine production, Marcel Mezy and his team are dedicated to sustainable agriculture, promoting fertile, living soils. This philosophy aligns with a broader commitment to natural resource preservation and climate change mitigation, particularly through carbon sequestration in soils. Combining traditional expertise with environmental innovation, Château Cantelauze stands out as a key player in the AOC Cahors region. With low yet meticulously managed yields, its wines reflect the richness of their terroir. Blending elegance, power, and respect for tradition, this estate is a benchmark for lovers of premium wines from the South-West of France.
