Vineyard of Château Belle-Graves: A Rich Terroir for Exceptional Wines
The vineyard at Château Belles-Graves spans 17 hectares, with the dominant variety being Merlot, which occupies 80% of the estate. The remaining 20% is dedicated to Cabernet Franc, also known as Bouchet. The vines are carefully cultivated on the east, south, and west sides of the Château, on soils rich in clay and gravel, particularly known for their high iron oxide content. This distinctive red gravel, often referred to as "crasse de fer" or iron dross, imparts unique characteristics to the wines, enriching them with structure and depth.
