A Family Legacy of Passion and Excellence
Nestled in the southern part of Pauillac, in the heart of the Médoc, Château Bellegrave flourishes among some of Bordeaux's most prestigious estates, including Châteaux Latour, Pichon-Longueville, and Lynch-Bages. This renowned winery was originally owned by Armand Roux before being acquired in 1901 by Mr. Van-Der-Voort, a wine merchant from San Francisco. In 1954, Gabriel Meffre, a celebrated vine nurseryman, recognized the exceptional potential of the Médoc terroir and invested in several vineyards, including Château Bellegrave.
In 1997, his son, Jean-Paul Meffre, already the owner of Châteaux du Glana and Lalande in Saint-Julien-Beychevelle, took over the estate. Today, his grandsons, Ludovic and Julien Meffre, continue this winemaking heritage, blending tradition with modern techniques to reveal the full expression of this exceptional terroir.
An Exceptional Terroir
The vineyard of Château Bellegrave spans 8.3 hectares, surrounded by some of the finest classified growths of the Pauillac appellation. Its gravelly soils, composed of Garonne gravels, ensure excellent drainage and retain heat throughout the day, fostering optimal grape ripening.
The vineyard is primarily planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (62%), the signature grape of the Médoc, which imparts power and structure to the wine. Merlot (31%) contributes roundness and suppleness, while Cabernet Franc (7%) adds complexity and spice. This carefully balanced blend results in a wine of remarkable depth, seamlessly combining strength and elegance.
A Perfect Wine for Pauillac Enthusiasts
At Château Bellegrave, the team is dedicated to crafting wines that embody the authenticity of the Pauillac terroir. By harmonizing innovation with time-honored viticultural practices, they meticulously tend to the vines in an environmentally responsible manner, ensuring optimal grape maturity. Château Bellegrave wines captivate with their deep ruby hue and elegant aromas of black fruits, enhanced by delicate oaky notes. On the palate, they stand out with their depth, silky tannins, and impressive aging potential. This powerful Pauillac pairs beautifully with red meats, offering a truly remarkable tasting experience that showcases the very essence of its prestigious terroir. For lovers of fine Bordeaux wines, Château Bellegrave represents a benchmark of excellence and accessibility.
With its rich family history, exceptional terroir, and unwavering commitment to winemaking excellence, Château Bellegrave stands as an essential reference in the world of great Pauillac wines.
