Portraits of winemakers
VIGNOBLES CASTAING

Founded in 1898, Vignobles Castaing is an estate nestled in the heart of southwest France, in the picturesque village of Cunèges, near Bergerac. The vineyard has been run by five generations of passionate winemakers. Driven by three unwavering passions—Terroir, Vine, and Wine—they have built the reputation of Castaing wines, vintage after vintage.
The 5th generation, represented by Fabien Castaing, continues these family traditions and values while bringing a breath of modernity. The goal remains unchanged: to offer quality wines that honor the terroir and are produced with the utmost respect for nature and the environment.
Vignobles Fabien Castaing majestically stretches across lands with a rich and diverse composition. On these clay-limestone soils, each grape variety expresses its authenticity, thanks to a temperate oceanic climate that ensures mild winters and cool summers. The boulbène, flint, and limestone nourish the vines, offering both tension and minerality.
The Expression of Expertise
Close to the Atlantic Ocean and nurtured by a temperate oceanic climate, Vignobles Castaing gathers all the conditions to cultivate an exceptional vineyard. Mild, rainy winters meet cool, relatively humid summers, while sunny late seasons ensure good grape ripening, sometimes even overripening, to the delight of sweet wine enthusiasts.
Each wine from Vignobles Castaing is a celebration of the terroir, an experience, and above all, an invitation to share the love and respect for wine, which has been the Castaing family’s guiding principle for over 120 years. Vignobles Castaing, with its various estates, offers dry white wines, sweet wines, rosé cuvées, reds, and several sparkling wine cuvées, including blanc de blancs or rosé.
Castaing wines are the result of a delicate alchemy between carefully selected and precisely blended grape varieties. Merlot, for example, with its early ripening, produces supple, richly colored wines with beautiful aromatic richness. Later-ripening Cabernet Sauvignon brings a robust structure, with tannins that are both strong and vibrant.
White grape varieties like Sémillon provide roundness and richness, creating aromatic and elegant wines, while Sauvignon Blanc adds acidity, minerality, and fresh aromatic notes. Whether red or white, Vignobles Castaing cuvées generously express the terroir from which they come, embodying the identity and excellence of the estate.
Vignobles Castaing, Highlighting the Terroir
Respect for the environment is deeply embedded in the DNA of Vignobles Castaing. The Castaing family offers many organic wine cuvées, and several parcels are currently transitioning to organic farming.
An example is Château Les Mailleries, an 11-hectare property certified organic since 2004. In close harmony with nature, the wines produced here reveal rich and complex profiles, reflecting a terroir cultivated with the utmost respect for nature.
Domaine Moulin Pouzy, the family’s historic property since 1898, beautifully illustrates this harmony between soil, climate, and vine, with its 54 hectares of vines certified High Environmental Value (HVE) level 3 since 2013. Each appellation produced here, whether AOC Bergerac, Bergerac rosé, or the enchanting Monbazillac, is an ode to regional grape varieties. Since 2019, the estate has been transitioning to organic farming.
