WHAT TO DRINK WITH ALSATIAN SAUERKRAUT?

Wine and Alsatian Sauerkraut: 3 Perfect Pairings
A Local Pairing
It might surprise you, but with an Alsatian sauerkraut, we recommend... Alsatian wines! Preferably white and dry, to complement the smoky flavor and firm, crispy texture of the Strasbourg sausages and the cabbage, whose acidity calls for a wine that's highly fruity and mineral. The ideal pairing would be with a Pinot Blanc, a Sylvaner, or a Riesling.
Our suggestion: Prestige Riesling from Domaine Robert Freudenreich
A Dry White Wine
However, assuming that only an Alsatian wine is suitable for pairing with Alsatian sauerkraut might seem a bit biased. And since we don’t favor any particular wine region (what matters most is the quality of the wine), we suggest a dry white wine from the Loire Valley, such as a Saumur or Vouvray. If your heart leans more towards Burgundy, you could also opt for a dry white like a Chablis or a Petit Chablis.
Our suggestion: Chablis from Domaine Vincent Wengier
A Light Red Wine
For those who are die-hard red wine lovers, we haven’t forgotten you! If white wine isn't your favorite, know that red wine and sauerkraut isn’t an impossible pairing. Just be careful not to choose a wine that’s too tannic, as it might impart a harsh flavor to your dish. For a harmonious match, opt for a light red with subtle tannins. An Alsatian Pinot Noir or a Beaujolais would be excellent choices.
